ShadoCon http://www.shadocon.com/
ShadoCon is an anime, video game, and comics convention.
ShadoCon is an annual anime, video game, and comics convention held in Tampa, Florida. Generally, ShadoCon is held in early November and is a three-day event spanning Friday through Sunday. Ever since its inception in 2010, ShadoCon has grown substantially in size each year and currently boasts over three thousand attendees.
Some of its popular events include the Breakdance Breakdown, the Shado Tournament, the Final Fantasy Ball, AMV Contest, Cosplay Showcase, and ShadoCon Talent Search. ShadoCon goes late into the night and features late-night raves, a well-populated video room, tabletop gaming room, video game room, LAN gaming, a huge dealer’s room, an artist’s alley, fan-hosted panels, and so much more. Many people cosplay while attending ShadoCon, and there are lots of gatherings for various anime, manga, and comic book series. While ShadoCon is based around anime, video games, and comic books, it is open and welcoming to fans of other genres – science fiction, popular TV shows, and the like.

About the sponsor Tom Tanner, Collector, Antiquities Dealer and Owner of Galaxy Cafe
I thought I’d write a little about Tom Tanner the owner of Galaxy Café who has agreed to sponsor my blog. Tom has been a collector of comic, sci-fi and cartoon/ movie toys since he was a child. One of the first things he collected was a pressed copper penny with Frankenstein’s head he got at Universal Studios in California in 1972. The items in his collection will be the highlight of several posts. So many items that give you a feeling of childhood wonderment and imagination. Tom Tanner is a collector of Antiquities, a dealer that worked in the world renowned Antiquities store at Caesars Forum Shops where major collectors like Michael Jackson purchased his collections. Tom mentioned he once purchased piece from Michael Jacksons collections, when he frequented the store on his trips to Vegas. Owner of the Galaxy Café in Henderson, NV. Galaxy Cafe (www.galaxycafelv.com) located @Galaxy Cafe 835 Seven Hills Dr. Henderson NV 89015. Located at Seven Hills Commons on the corner of St. Rose Parkway and Seven Hills Dr.
Galaxy Cafe is a unique experience within itself. The coffee shop is a unique idea that Tom was developing for the past year. Tom began the new renovation because he wanted a unique intimate experience for his regular customers to enjoy. A coffee house equipped with drive-thru and full menu has some surprising twists. First of all, by day its a simple coffee shop with specialty lattes and teas all made with organic coffee and organic tea. Galaxy also features a simple breakfast and lunch menu, including a health conscious menu catered by Go Raw. A healthy choice for breakfast would be their granola “Trail Mix” that is organic from San Francisco’s Divine Organics list of “super foods” or a basic breakfast sandwich. For lunch, a menu with salads, wraps and sandwiches which have breads catered from the German Bread Bakery (delicious) and a delightful selection of organic chocolates from San Francisco, cookies custom made with Star Wars theme from a local hand made candy baker Sweet Ruby’s Confections. With specialty drink names like Atomic Blast its a fun place to go. But that is not even close to where the fun begins. The coffee shop has a waiting staff that pulls all the right stuff. From opening at 6 am you may order at the cashier using your reload-able gift card or scanning the Loyalty program that offers points to your smart phone. Table service during the day is performed after you give your order at the cashier. Your meal is brought out to you. If the dinning room is busy the waiting staff will seat you and serve you. Tipping is always appreciated.
The magic is in the decorative culinary arts and the collectables exhibit. The dinning room has had the last major added touches to give a intimate experience. burgundy accents and added more upscale sci-fi themes done for the intellectual and kid at heart. “We modified the original idea to finally complete a dining experience that is more intimate, offering our customer a evening experience as well as morning and lunch crowd. We added a full service experience with new renovations to appeal to more evening activities. It also brightens up day dining. ” We encased the collectables and put the sci-fi posters in the bathroom, lol – giving the dining room a more upscale motif yet still keeping the sci-fi and comic collectables appeal. “
In the evening the dining experience is delightful. Coffee is served with decorative foam that has sci-fi themes like Darth Vader, Saturn and more. The weekly special is known as “Fun Food” that will even get your children to eat their veggies. If this cant get them to eat healthy nothing will.
Evening Dessert menu was created for people that had dinner and would like a coffee and dessert. Pastries, cakes and other baked goods catered from the German Bread Bakery. Holiday themed Menus and discounts for Christmas, New Year, Celebrating your Birthday you receive a free gift from Galaxy Café, Mothers Day Fathers Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Fourth of July, St. Patrick’s Day, and Thanksgiving Day.

Collectable # 29,297
This is an intriguing find. One that had caught the imagination of Collector, Tom Tanner the owner of Galaxy Café and sponsor of my blog. I found the assortment of these news papers most brilliant in the days of digital media with the printed newspaper becoming increasingly obsolete these artifacts are a throwback to a simpler time. This is a dummy or prop front page of the Daily Planet that was used in the first Superman Movie and its attached to an actual news paper of its time. The International Herald Tribune Monday May 30th 1977. The movie was primarily filmed in England. Tom has a assortment of these types of props from all four Superman movies.Headlines read as follows: Caped Wonder Stuns City, Blue Bomb Buzzes Metropolis, Look Ma No Wires, Live Warheads Used on TwinMissile Test, Ross Webster Foiled By Superman, White House Surrenders, and even a Japanese newspaper.
All Kinds of Girl Power
I thought my first article in my blog would be about girl power. So I found several images that represent that. My Idea came to me because I was invited to a private showing on the collection of Tom Tanner a antiquities dealer at Antiquities at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. One particular collectable was from the 1984 Original Motion Picture “Supergirl” starring Helen Slater. I had the opportunity to try on the costume including boots and autographed cape that was custom made to fit Helen Slaters 5ft 8inch, 130 pounds body along with the size 8 boot. Being I normally wear a size 7 to 7 and a half sometimes 8 shoe that didn’t seem to awkward. I also thought her body suit by looking at it, is probley a size 4. I usually wear 0 to 2 and sometimes Ill wear a 4 depending on the way its put together. Well I wanted some photos in it and see what it feels like so I tried it. It was very heavy fabric and it was extremely wrinkled from being in plastic totes for almost 30 years. The color of the blue looked a lot lighter than the movie color. So it was either the one used for night or green screen shots, or it had just faded over time. It was a lot of fun seeing a photo-illusion created from the snapshot taken in a mirror by Jordon my novice photographer friend that just graduated from Art Institute in Henderson, Nevada. I’ve decided to reveal the illustration of me in the suit after I saw them both together. The photo taken of me in this 80s wrinkled supergirl costume that doesn’t cling as well as it would in the 80s. with the ‘S’ backwards because I’m looking in the mirror and Jacob shot the photo of the mirror image. The rendering done on adobe Photoshop with a planet like earth behind me depicts the image with the ‘S’ in proper position as if it is what I would be seeing in the costume. I was so exciting to see this photo illusion. The feeling was so positive and I really felt super girl power or girl power. I had the good opportunity to meet Stan Lee in 2009 at the Palms Casino during a comic con and the premier of Iron Man 2. I was escorted to the show by Majestic Magnificent from Michael Jacksons family. If that wasn’t more super hero enough meeting the creator of all the childhood fun and imagination with a member of the Michael Jackson Family. (I’m like next Walt Disney and Michael Jackson /think….) below are the photos from the episode- supergirl revisited:
What I saw when I looked in the mirror with the Supergirl suit on. 🙂
Helen Slaters Supergirl costume worn in 1983 Supergirl movie.
Helen Slater in Supergirl movie. So awesome !
MORE GIRL POWER !!!!— enjoy !
